Nan, a writer, is trapped in a loveless, emotionally abusive marriage to Jake. When she and her son go on holiday to a Montana dude ranch, she falls in love with rancher and owner Ben. When Nan begins to realize that her marriage is killing her and her son, she must still return to her husband to take steps to make a new life. Mary Peiffer reads this Western with a slow, steady voice, capturing its vivid scenes of mountains and western life. Coleman's work demonstrates the destructiveness of abusive marriages, and the difficulty of escape.
