Narrator Carol Monda's smooth pacing and natural-sounding inflections can't quite breathe life into this quirky look at suburban life. Her voice is easy to listen to, but her performance has no variation or nuances to help the listener differentiate the large cast of characters. Admittedly, this is partly because there's little character development in the story itself, making it a challenge to keep track of or care about the people of Littlefield, or their dogs. The gleaming suburban façade of the residents seems superficial and unattractive, and the mystery of who is poisoning the dogs of Littlefield doesn't arouse one's curiosity. Nothing is resolved; the ending just fades out. N.E.M. © AudioFile 2016, Portland, Maine [Published: FEBRUARY 2016]
