The author is a good narrator of her own work. Saxifrage lives on an out-of-the-way island off the coast of British Columbia, where she raises her son, grows organic food, swims miles in icy water, and works to promote sustainable logging and to build understanding among her logger and First Nations neighbors. Her life was full of challenges (and pleasures) before concerns about climate change took center stage. In this very personal memoir, she struggles to incorporate this new threat into her worldview. She takes advantage of the knowledge only an author has to convey the emotions she intends in her written words. Although she's not a seasoned performer, her pace is consistent and her pronunciation clear. F.C. © AudioFile 2016, Portland, Maine [Published: JANUARY 2016]
