THROUGH THE EYES OF A LION Facing Impossible Pain, Finding Incredible Power

Lusko, the pastor of an evangelical church in Montana, takes a personal approach to this book, aimed at helping listeners cope with severe loss. He speaks from experience—his daughter, Lenya, whose nickname was “Lion,” died at the age of 5 from a severe asthma attack just before Christmas in 2012. Lusko’s text and delivery are very much in the style of a sermon, which along with its content, may not appeal to some. Still, he’s a gifted speaker, and his story does provide insights into how one can cope with the loss of a child. His pronunciation is clear, and his delivery is passionate without being melodramatic. Several years ago, this reviewer lost a son who was 19 and can quite relate to this discussion of loss and the search for meaning when one’s child passes.
