Photojournalist Max Malone and Kat Hamilton are on opposite sides of Max's hot story about the failed suicide and self-proclaimed amnesia of Kat's mother, the wife of presidential contender Buckmaster Hamilton. But Max and Kate agree completely about falling in love. Narrator Graham Winton captures the various facets of Max: his struggle to balance his killer instinct for the hidden Hamilton story with his professional ethics and his attraction to Kat. Winton gives Montana characters like Buck, the sheriff, and Kat's sisters light Western drawls, and his female voices sound natural. His conversational tone captures the humor that offsets the violent plot Kat and Max uncover. In numerous places, sentences are cut off due to poor editing, but balanced against Daniels's political mystery and Winton's well-paced narration, this is still an audiobook worth recommending.
