Probably, the less one knows about Shakespeare, the better one will appreciate this audio survey of his work. Daniel Weyman is an excellent choice as narrator, bringing energy, drama, and a degree of irony and melodrama to what, for stretches, is basically just a list of plot summaries. The text is detailed and reliable, and is an excellent vehicle for broadening one's knowledge of both the range and the particulars of Shakespeare's writings. By the end, one will be able to talk knowledgeably about plays one hasn't seen or read, and to hold one's own in debates about Shakespeare's authorship of his plays. Entertaining, informative, and enlightening, this compendium is designed for those starting, and for those resuming after many years, an acquaintance with Shakespeare.
