Dick Hill's performance and this engrossing tale make it hard to put this audio down. Like W.E.B. Griffin's The Corps series, this book is a fictionalized account of real events. Because of Hill's solid reading, you forget the characters aren't real. The violence and the camradarie ring true. The good guys are a detachment of Marines stationed in North China as WWII erupts in the Pacific. You follow Captain Billy Port as his Marine company battles its way through China and Mongolia in an effort to reach neutral Siberia--all the while pursued by a vengeful Japanese officer. Hill's foreign accents are incredible. He is at his best, however, describing a firefight or emoting during the funeral for a slain marine. A.L.H.
