WINDCATCHER

by | Read by George Guidall

Children Ages 8+ • 2.5 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1991

Tony finds the perfect way to spend his savings--he buys a sailboat that launches him into a summer vacation full of adventure and mystery. This well-crafted story is graced by George Guidall's deft portrayal of character through dialogue. His depiction of the warm relationship shared by Tony and his Portuguese grandmother is particularly charming, and together the two form an odd but effective sleuthing team. Guidall builds suspense without provoking anxiety, so the story is suited to younger listeners (although adults will also enjoy its mystery and insights on sailing). Like the ship model at the center of the story, Avi's tale is a perfectly crafted and believable miniature, and Guidall brings it ably to life. J.C.G.
