LADIES WITH OPTIONS

Barbara McCulloh reads this upbeat novel in a lively voice. The ladies of the title range in age and social status from college student to society matron. While her voice sometimes borders on being chirpy during long narrative stretches, McCulloh creates distinct personalities for a large cast of characters. Filled with believable dialogue and well-crafted description, this novel is an enjoyable story of how a group of women join together to form a successful investment club and ultimately become the backbone of their town's economy. The story of the Larksdale Ladies Investment Club and the personal adventures of its members creates a charming picture of female friendship. R.F.
