SAFFY'S ANGEL

The marriage between McKay's charming novel and narrator Julia Sawalha is a sublime listening experience. The novel centers around the quirky, recognizably British members of the Casson family. Time passes fluidly in the story, without chapter headings or explicit dates, in a series of vignettes that reveal important moments in the family: the day when Saffy finds out she is actually the adopted cousin of the other children, Caddy, Indigo, and Rose, and the day when their grandfather dies, leaving a mysterious angel to Saffy who may yet provide her with proof of her place in the family. Sawalha's easy presentation of the various characters will allow listeners of all ages to enjoy a novel that presents the story of a loving and memorable family with an abundance of humor and warmth.
