This adoring tribute to the famous novelist, originally published in the mid-1960s, was produced out of the conversations, shared experiences, and musing of two internationally traveling friends: the younger Hotchner and the elder Hemingway. Narrator Robert Stack, who died in 2003, most famously portrayed Eliot Ness on TV in "The Untouchables." Here he provides a uniform, one-dimensional staccato that makes it difficult to hear beyond his own film and television roles. His stylings seem all too familiar. Hotchner's notes on his travels with Hemingway from 1948 to 1961 form the basis of the reflections, some on Hemingway's childhood and some on the real-life events that influenced his iconic fiction. The severe abridgment makes the listener wonder what the entire story and its additional insights might have offered. W.A.G. © AudioFile 2016, Portland, Maine [Published: SEPTEMBER 2016]
