A CIRCLE OF NATIONS

Essays by well-known Native American authors are eloquently read by Joy Harjo (Creek Nation) and Simon Ortiz (Acoma Pueblo). The essays provide unique perspectives on the diversity of Native American traditions and identities, with common threads such as spirituality, community, survival, renewal and the impact of the dominant culture. The thirteen selections seem designed for oral presentation, and both readers, accomplished authors and public speakers, do the job well. Harjo's excellent enunciation and pacing powerfully portray each essay. Ortiz reads persuasively in an expressive personal style.
