BLUE ROAD TO ATLANTIS

by | Read by Del Roy

Fiction • 4.5 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2002

BLUE ROAD TO ATLANTIS offers much in the fine tradition of a quest. Nussbaum's literary self-awareness also offers amusing references to MOBY-DICK and THE OLD MAN AND THE SEA and is reminiscent of such fables as ANIMAL FARM and JONATHAN LIVINGSTON SEAGULL. The story's main character, Fishmael, is a useful companion to the Old Fish. When Red Tide threatens the sea, the two begin a journey to Atlantis. As the story makes generalizations about human existence and offers useful truths more easily heard from the mouths of animals--or in this case, fish--Del Roy's reading is charming. With a pleasant, dreamy quality, it's as if he's reciting poetry. Roy's gentle touch adds to Nussbaum's simple message: "Swim with the current." S.J.H.
