To avoid the yo-yo effect of abusive diets, author Jan Yager lost 77 pounds by making lifestyle changes that focused on what's possible, rather than what's wrong. With the support of her husband and others, she creatively set small goals that rewarded her for incremental progress. She's appeared on "Oprah," which must count for something, but I found that her slow and halting speaking style makes this a very long 60 minutes. And while the advice is positive and probably effective, the overemphasis on her personal narrative instead of teaching weight control principles will, for many listeners, make this audio interesting, maybe heartwarming, but just barely instructive.
