CITY OF THE MIND

by | Read by Nadia May

Fiction • 7 hrs. 30 mins. • Unabridged • © 1992

In this unusual novel the human characters are almost upstaged by the city of London. The central plot is, for the most part, narrated rather than dramatized. Nadia May's brisk, businesslike and very British delivery is most appropriate for telling a story calculated to engage the readers' minds while leaving their emotions unruffled. May does an excellent job integrating the time shifts and different voices that weave the stories of earlier Londoners into the ongoing contemporary tale. While she falters with the voice of the hero's young daughter, who sounds whiny when she ought to be winsome, she succeeds wonderfully in expressing with panache the infrequent vulgarities she encounters.
