KOFI, A CHILD OF LAVIE

Narrator Nathan Hinton energetically transports us to Lavie, Togo, and the world of 11-year-old Kofi Amouzou as he and his family eke out a living by farming. Hinton's standout performance is the lively and endearing Kofi, but Kofi's noble and loving parents, with their melodious voices, are equally enchanting. It's moving to hear the family studying together after a hard day in the fields. Hinton's Kofi is hilarious as he prays to the Mud Man to deliver him from his field chores. Vivid descriptions of the scenery, such as moonlight on a pitch-black night, and Hinton's lovely singing add a strong sense of place.
