Narrator Diana Bishop adroitly handles the various storylines--romance, family saga, and mystery--in this Fran Harman series installment. Chief Inspector Harman, of Kent, reluctantly postpones her retirement after several "happy slappings" (assaults that are posted online) turn into more serious criminal activity. Bishop's Harman sounds confident as she motivates her officers; warm and concerned when she helps Jill Tanner, her friend and co-worker, face her son, a drug addict; and romantic as she and her boyfriend search for their dream home. Listeners will feel Harman's pain and humiliation when she's attacked by a girl gang and be intrigued when a TV anchorwoman is stalked by an "adoring" fan.
