Who knew getting on the bus that morning would end in eternal damnation? Unfortunately, for the nameless protagonist of this audiobook, his first step off the bus is his first step into hell. Howard's dark story suggests grotesque and relentless agonies that put Dante to shame. Alex Hyde-White delivers solidly in his narration, making sure listeners feel each moment of pain expressed by the narrator. Hyde-White's slightly raspy, haggard voice captures the protagonist's responses to his situation as well as the author's conversational style of writing, which is reminiscent of Stephen King's.
