Norman Dietz narrates each of these essays on America with an ear for the significance of the locale being described. The author begins his tour of great American places with the National Mall. At the end, he visits the Mall of America and the first enclosed mall. In between, he considers such landmarks as the Gateway Arch, the Alamo, and Yellowstone National Park. The author gives listeners a sense of the history behind each national treasure, for example, explaining how urban planning created the grand view from the National Mall and how the Liberty Bell was saved. If listeners want to see the sites, there's a list of web links to each destination and nearby attractions. If not, Dietz take listeners on an aural journey through American culture and history.
