Charles's reading takes the book to an even higher level. Lindsay intertwines the fast-paced story with detailed scenes of FBI politics and procedures, and Charles's reading gives Kincade and Alton distinct voices. Charles imbues the dispirited, brilliant Kincade with the right mix of despair, cunning, and detached compassion, while capturing the drive that makes Alton return to work less than a month after losing a leg to cancer.
