Part wildlife memoir, part birder's journal, part celebrity biography, Jane Alexander's personal story about visiting natural places around the world covers a lot of ground. Alexander has been involved in biodiversity preservation, largely through New York's Wildlife Conservation Society, since the 1970s. She has visited Madagascar, the Galapagos Islands, Myanmar, and Bhutan, to name just a few exotic places. Alexander reads her own work. Although an accomplished stage and screen actor, she is inclined to monotone. Like many of us, she seems to have learned her reading aloud skills at bedtime. Still, her pronunciation is always clear, and her pacing is excellent. Alexander mourns the hunting and habitat destruction currently driving so many of the world's most unique and beautiful species to extinction.
