THE JAZZ BIRD

by | Read by Michael Rafkin

Mystery & Suspense • 9 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2002

This 1920s glamorous drama introduces listeners to whiskey baron George Remus, who is suspected of murdering his wife, Jazz Bird. Michael Rafkin's surefooted, gravelly performance is well matched to an era of bootlegging, crime, and brazen lifestyles. His ability to transition deftly from one character to another is accomplished perfectly so the listener can enjoy the plot without distraction. The characters are diverse enough that Rafkin has had to do his homework to capture their personalities and maintain consistency. Jazz music would have provided a nice backdrop to this recording; however, it is nonexistent. B.J.P. (c) AudioFile 2003, Portland, Maine [Published: DEC 03/JAN 04]
