Wanda Dixon deftly narrates alternating chapters from the perspectives of Caprianna "Capri" Jordan, a successful black woman who's seriously injured by a disgruntled ex-employee, and Elijah Johnson, her kind and supportive physical therapist. Listeners will grieve when the hospitalized Jordan is served divorce papers by her remote husband and she realizes that she's neglected most areas of her life except her business. It's moving to hear Jordan question why God has abandoned her and then rediscover her faith with the warm encouragement of her therapist. In addition to the vivid descriptions of the California setting and mouthwatering meals, Dixon is also skilled at portraying Johnson's son, whose innocent questions about life and death make her realize she wants to take a second chance on life.
