HOLDING ON TO HOPE A pathway through suffering to the heart of God

by | Read by Nancy Guthrie

Personal Growth • 1.7 hrs. • Abridged • © 2002

When Nancy Guthrie found that her new daughter, Hope, suffered from Zellweger Syndrome, her faith was tested. Guthrie tells her own story, and it's a painful one. Hope is not the only child her family has lost to this disease; there's a reason she compares her suffering to that in the biblical story of Job. However, at one point, when discussing Job's reaction to his suffering, Guthrie comments that until that point he'd seemed too good to be true. The same could be said about Guthrie. Her delivery is clear and professional, but her pain never really comes through in her prose or her voice, so her story remains a little distant and preachy. G.T.B.
