"The Star Spangled Banner" has more to it than the verse sung at ballgames. The entire poem by Francis Scott Key is among the patriotic readings in this collection. Other familiar selections include "America the Beautiful," "Yankee Doodle," and "The Pledge of Allegiance." It also includes lesser-known works such as "Barbara Freitchie," by John Greenleaf Whittier, the story of a woman who hangs the U.S. flag in the path of the Confederate army. The readings are handled with great passion and solemnity. The entire collection, however, clocks in at just shy of 37 minutes, a fact not noted on the package that may disappoint listeners. J.A.S.
