THE DRESSMAKER'S DOWRY

by | Read by Cassandra Campbell, Barrie Kreinik

Fiction • 9.75 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2017

Alternating chapters, narrators Cassandra Campbell and Barrie Kreinik deliver a satisfying story of two women mysteriously linked across time in San Francisco. The audiobook begins in the present day with Sarah, a journalist haunted by her past who stumbles upon a long-forgotten missing person's story. In 1876, Hanna is desperately searching the city for her friend, Margaret, who disappeared suddenly. Campbell handles the first-person narration well, navigating the tension between Sarah's investigative instincts and her complicated family history. Both narrators ably distinguish numerous male and female characters, underscoring the scope of the wide-ranging story. Kreinik, however, has the added challenges voicing German and Irish accents, as well as Victorian colloquialisms, all of which she does seamlessly.
