What a great idea for an audiobook. Lincoln wrote some of America's most memorable prose, much of it to be read aloud. This collection represents the range and depth of his reflections, and is indicative of his considerable powers of expression. We know little of Lincoln's voice, except that it was high-pitched and tinged by what was characterized, in his day, as a "Western" accent. George Vafiadis's Lincoln sounds as if he's perpetually seated on a front porch or in a crossroads store, shooting the breeze. Vafiadis might have done better to give these words HIS best delivery instead of attempting to approximate Lincoln's speech. T.J.W. (c) AudioFile 2003, Portland, Maine [Published: APR/MAY 03]
