COMPOSING A LIFE

by | Read by Dana Ivey

Contemporary Culture • 3 hrs. • Abridged • © 1992

"Women today read, and write, biographies to gain perspective on their own lives." Mary Catherine Bateson (Margaret Mead's daughter) describes the choices and rhythms of women's lives through comments on the lives of five women. Although technically Dana Ivey's execution is very clear and easily understood, she reads each chapter as if giving a lecture,--without emotional investment. At times the material seems thin, and almost trite reflecting poorly on the abridgment process. Although the audio presentation is lacking, the author's scholarship is worth listening to.
