Caroline Morahan narrates this intricate murder mystery set in Dublin, which is told from three profoundly different points of view and covers a time span of 30 years. Morahan excels with all three main characters: Clodagh McKay, who felt her late mother's disdain for her all her life and now undergoes regression therapy to better understand it; Dr. Kate Pearson, a criminal psychologist and profiler who is called to help with the investigation of a series of murders; and the mysterious killer. Adding to the menacing atmosphere are depictions of lifelong friends who have hidden their true feelings from each other and husbands and wives who are enduring miserable, often abusive, marriages. Morahan's most engaging creation is Detective Inspector O'Connor, who always sounds rushed and impatient yet fully likable. Listeners will be intrigued by Pearson's insights into the unidentified killer and moved by McKay's regression sessions, in which she uses her old dollhouse to access her feelings.
