An injured pilot accompanies his young wife to her new job at Super-Cannes, an industrial park on the Riviera. She is replacing a doctor at the clinic, a former lover as it happens, who died under mysterious circumstances. Having nothing else to do, the husband begins investigating the death, gradually uncovering an experiment in drugs, prurience, and murder. As in the same author's COCAINE NIGHTS, the hero grows alternately appalled and fascinated by his sinister discoveries. As narrated by the British Gordon Griffin, the crime and decadence fascinate the listener as much as the hero. Griffin is somewhat detached except in scenes of dialogue. This is a feature of his style, not a defect, though the detachment does produce an odd effect in the explicit sex scenes. Y.R. (c) AudioFile 2003, Portland, Maine [Published: OCT/ NOV 03]
