THE CONQUERING FAMILY

by | Read by David Case

History • 15 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1949

Thomas Costain, while not historian's historian, is justifiably admired for his ability to bring history to life. In his first volume on the Plantagenets, we follow the conquerors of England from 1066 to the end of King John's reign in 1216. David Case is not the best choice to narrate the dramatic story of this troubled time or to portray the formidable monarchs, churchmen and nobles who clashed and changed the course of history. Case's narration sounds flat, and his vocalizations do little to enhance the text. It is, however, a competent reading, and the subject matter itself will keep listeners turning cassettes to the very end. D.L.G. ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: DEC 94]
