Clive Mantle's genius brings verve and believability to characters and atmosphere alike, rendering the story a rich experience for children, as well as adults, who enjoy dramatic flair along with an intricate plot. In search of his proper place in the world, poor Twig has such rotten luck that even a dedicated listener might get a trifle testy, but the narration is so wonderful that it's worthwhile to hang on every word.
