This gentle and insightful exploration of prayer floats by like a long late-night phone call with a dear friend. Sophy Burnham pauses, muses, and seems to be talking to herself at times as she meanders through an exploration of prayer, its effectiveness, meaning and, ultimately, its liberating power. She peppers her commentary with historical and scholarly references that are unforced and occasionally result in elliptical reasoning, Burnham attempts to explain and understand prayer, fulfilled and unfulfilled.
