CONTROVERSIES & COMMANDERS Dispatches from the Army of the Potomac

by | Read by Nelson Runger

History • 11.5 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1999

This collection of 10 academic essays by the well-known historian looks at a number of incidents and people associated with the Federal Army of the Potomac during the Civil War. Among the essays is an evaluation of its founder, Major-General George B. McClellan, the court-martial of Major-General Fitz-John Porter, and a very fascinating reevaluation of the career of Major-General Joseph "Fighting Joe" Hooker. These are arranged in chronological order and do much to give the listener a good idea of the character and inner workings of this organization. Nelson Runger's reading is flawless. One quickly becomes comfortable with his baritone voice; his pacing and inflection are even, measured and pleasing to hear. The only lapse is the lack of any maps or illustrations. The inclusion of these would enhance the listener's appreciation of this fine work. M.T.F. © AudioFile 2000, Portland, Maine [Published: AUG/SEP 00]
