Anyone familiar with Ruth Rendall's gripping stories of psychological suspense or mystery will find it incredible that her work could be tedious or boring to listen to. Unfortunately, this is exactly what happens with Peters's interpretation of The Copper Peacock . She presents each story and most of the characters in a detached, unvarying manner. The tragedy of the title story is delivered in the same style as the request to turn over the tape. Even Chief Inspector Wexford's colorful character is lost in the delivery. However, the listener will undoubtably persist because Rendell is so addictive. S.G.B. ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: DEC 92]
