COYOTE AND ROCK & OTHER LUSHOOTSEED STORIES

by | Read by Vi Hilbert

Storytelling • 1 hr. • Audio Program • © 1992

While teaching stories are integral to all traditions, some are able to bridge cultural gaps better than others. These authentic stories are part of a series narrated by Native American storytellers. These Chippewa-Cree stories and the Lushootseed tales are only somewhat successful in the aural-only format, particularly as Hilbert tells her tales in both English and her native language--an interesing and valuable concept, but hard to listen to for an hour. She does use a traditional Native American “voice,” a specific pitch and tone unique to her culture. Those who listen to the entire Caedmon series will be struck by similarities among certain tales from different traditions, always a part of the fascination of storytelling. The series provides an appealing view of these cultures. S.G. ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: FEB 93]
