DAUGHTERS OF THE NIGHT SKY

Kathleen Gati narrates the story of the Russian 588th Night Bomber Regiment through the voice of Katya Ivanova, one of the infamous "Night Witches." Although Katya is a fictional character, the all-female air unit was a real and important part of Russia's war effort in WWII. Gati's narration is engrossing and spot-on. The listener can imagine sitting in a room with Katya as, years later, she shares the story of fulfilling her dream of flying and fighting for Mother Russia. Gati's delivery is smoothly paced and well enunciated, with an accent appropriate for the Russian characters. She puts steel in Katya's voice as she fights the gender bias that tries to curtail her from fulfilling her dream and ultimately survives war's high costs.
