BECOMING MADELEINE A Biography of the Author of A Wrinkle in Time by Her Granddaughters

by | Read by Charlotte Jones Voiklis, Lena Roy

Children Ages 8+ • 2.75 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2018

Charlotte Jones Voiklis and Léna Roy are the authors and narrators of this biography of author Madeleine L'Engle's formative years. The narrative ends with the sale of A WRINKLE IN TIME, the children's literature classic and Newbery Medalist. Voiklis narrates without a great deal of inflection, but since she's L'Engle's granddaughter, it's not surprising that a bit of reverence is detectable. The words of L'Engle herself are the highlight of the audiobook. Madeleine's youthful letters and journals from her boarding school days are filled with exclamatory sentences, which Roy reads with the gushing passion and determination of the young Madeleine. Her tone becomes more mature and thoughtful as she delivers Madeleine's later missives, written as a wife and mother. L.T. © AudioFile 2018, Portland, Maine [Published: FEBRUARY 2018]
