FRED ARCHER, FARMER'S SON

by | Read by Brian Hewlett

Biography & Memoir • 9 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2003

This book is a charming memoir in the tradition of LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE. Archer grew up on a farm in the Vale of Evesham, in England. Much of his story tells of a lifestyle only recently set aside. This is a time when homemade tinctures were used because there were no modern antibiotics for humans or animals. A place where tools and clothes and kitchenware so lovingly remembered are now only available in antique shops. Brian Hewlett’s delivery can only be described as slow and gentle and heavily accented. But once you grow accustomed to the difference between this and the usual consumer venture, you’ll find that it feels appropriate to the material. A good choice as well for James Herriot fans.
