CRIME'S LEADING LADIES

Five short stories brought together for this audiobook, three eminent contemporary mystery authors, and an engaging narrator result in an entertaining production. The stories range from the hard-boiled (Paretsky's take on Phillip Marlowe), to the unusual (McCrumb's "Nine Lives to Live"). Gless, most familiar from television's Cagney and Lacey, sets just the right mood for each story, altering pitch and accent, pace and intonation appropriately. She seems to really enjoy telling each story. Mystery fans, as well as those who prefer short fiction on audio, should find this very satisfying. M.A.M.
