In a well-written journey into the labyrinthine workings of sibling rivalry, Jennifer Weiner follows sisters Maggie and Rose Feller as they struggle to find their way to each another. Before this can happen, they must overcome old angers and jealousies. While they were once close, a chasm that rivals the Grand Canyon now exists. Rose, overweight and plain, is a conservative, successful attorney. Maggie, slim and gorgeous, drinks and is promiscuous. Barbara McCulloh narrates in a pleasing voice that keeps the listener's interest. She doesn't force vocal characterizations but instead reads for intelligence and sense. When the sisters meet their estranged maternal grandmother, all three women undergo healing changes made more believable by McCulloh's controlled, unaffected performance. S.J.H.
