Janine Granda's performance of youthful emotions intensifies the burgeoning friendship and romance between two girls who have time against them. San Francisco teen Harper knows the age at which everyone around her will die, a fact which she hides from everyone except her best friend. The summer before college all of her emotional barriers crumble at the arrival of a new girl named Chloe. The pair's adorable chemistry sparkles through Granda's delivery of their laughter and teasing. Her narration also balances the tension of seeming inevitability with joy, creating genuine struggle for Harper and confusion for Chloe. Harper finds her relationship with her supportive father shift into unknown territory, as well.
