Dozens of voice professionals could have performed this well-organized guide with more vocal appeal and energy than the author does. She's a comfortable speaker, friendly and easy to understand, but her slow reading lacks the energy that her message of empowerment deserves. She knows her field well and covers a lot of choices that retirees will face without making her book pedantic or cluttered. Frequently illustrating her points with case studies from her counseling practice, she emphasizes that people should plan for the transition from work to retirement--disengaging from their old career, assessing their skills, exploring their values and interests, and taking action in spite of uncertainty. The audiobook itself provides a wonderful framework for listeners to begin planning for a life of more freedom, richer connections with others, and new opportunities to express their talents and passions.
