OFF THE CHART

Apparently a sequel, this audiobook is muscular, violent, and steamy. Well, at least the story is. Set in the Florida Keys, the story is steeped in an atmosphere of Southern vengeance as modern-day pirates exact a toll on wealthy pleasure boats and attempt to get their personal pound-o'-flesh in the bargain. Factor in dysfunctional family ties among the crooks, as well as grudges that can be settled only with guns and knives, and you've got yourself a potboiler. John Bedford Lloyd pours himself into the sweaty male characterizations and handles the subtler female roles with panache. An entertaining listen, perfect for anyone who liked CAPE FEAR. D.J.B.
