Richard Poe's resonant baritone and unique narrative skills are a perfect match for Taylor's romantic suspense. Intrepid heroine Jordan Curry's best friend surprises her one evening with a plea to care for her 4-year-old son, Spencer, and then vanishes without further explanation. Jordan's blind date, Beau Somerville, winds up helping to protect Jordan and Spencer from a hit man and a major hurricane along the North Carolina coast. Poe reinforces the spine-tingling suspense with a tense, fast-paced reading punctuated by pregnant pauses and a credible rendition of the traumatized Spencer's whine.
