Nyna Giles, author and narrator of this audiobook, captures listeners at the outset. Her mother, Carolyn Scott, was a successful Ford model in the 1940s and 1950s and was also a dear friend and bridesmaid for actress Grace Kelly, who became Princess Grace of Monaco. Yet Carolyn ended her days in a homeless shelter, not because of her family's neglect but at her own insistence. Giles delivers her story in a quiet journalistic tone. Perhaps the emotions built into her words are too painful to convey. Even with her impressive research into the reasons for her mother's behavior, listeners are left with a wistful ending. If Carolyn Scott had had access to current medicine, her life and Giles's would have been very different. E.E.S. © AudioFile 2018, Portland, Maine [Published: JUNE 2018]
