SECOND OPINION

by | Read by John Driver

Fiction • 13.5 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2002

Instead of a fast-paced emergency room drama centered around a mysterious epidemic, as the audiobook cover advertises, the listener is subjected to extended sermonizing under the thinly veiled cover of a story. John Driver's narration, though precise and exact, is devoid of expression except when he depicts Brook, the teenaged daughter of Doctor Sheldon. Brook is portrayed as whiny and petulant, leaving little to like about her. Even when her character changes, Driver depicts her as the same annoying child. The pastor, doctors, and love interests herein are portrayed as unrealistic and lifeless. In all, the story within the box bears no resemblance to the advertised story. G.D.W.
