Eddie Dominguez went from Boston police officer to Major League Baseball security, where he was privy to the sport's steroid scandal up close. Jason Culp carries the bulk of the narration; Edward Bauer reads the prologue, while Dominguez narrates the author's note and epilogue. Culp carries off his part of the story appropriately, considering the Cuban-born author's Northeast accent. His Spanish pronunciations are also spot-on. Dominguez details behind-the-scenes moments with players and associates, especially their contentious relationship with MLB's leadership. The narration does not imitate the voices of the various players and others who weave in and out of this work. That's just as well. The well-documented stories give the listener an idea of what went on behind MLB's performance-enhancing drug scandal and subsequent investigations.
