DALAI LAMA, MY SON

In beautiful, sophisticated language, Diki Tsering tells the listener the tale of her life: her upbringing in a rural Buddhist home in Tibet, her marriage and the raising of 16 children (7 of whom survived to adulthood), and her escape with her family from Chinese-dominated Tibet to India. She also describes the identification of her young son as the Dalai Lama and how this changed her life. Arabella Hong's mellifluous voice, flawless narration, and phrasing echo the speech of Tibet and Asia. Each tape ends with Tibetan music. The listener is struck by the strict customs, mores, and traditions of Tibet, all carefully remembered almost 80 years later and reiterated by the illiterate mother of the Dalai Lama for her children.
