When Kate visits the Victorian-era Barton House, Asheboro's only significant asset, Durante captures Kate's fear and resilience as she discovers the murdered body of her high school enemy, who had been trying to take over the house for her own use. In particular, Durante effectively portrays Kate's childhood best friend, Lisbeth, who reacts with high emotion to every situation.
